Madekwe was born into an ethnically mixed family. The mother of her child is English and her father Nigerian. She was raised on a council estate south of London. In the ages of 14she enrolled in The Brit School. In London she attended The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in which her acting diploma was obtained. During her time at the academy, she performed in a number of stage productions such as King Henry V playing Princess Katherine as well as Wuthering Heights portraying Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe began her acting career with the movie Storm Damage. In the years since she has appeared in Teachers as well as Doctors. In February of 2011, she was cast in the role of Ashley Davenport in the ABC drama series Revenge. Madekwe starred as a regular character on the drama series on ABC Revenge in two episodes. The show was announced in May 2013 that she was set to be leaving the series following one guest appearance on the very first series of the 3rd. On the show Salem the actress played Tituba in 2014 through 2016. Madekwe and her boyfriend who has been with her for a long time, Iddo Goldenberg, were married in June 2012. They collaborated on Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Goldberg also appeared with her on Salem.

Ashley Leggat, a twice Gemini nominated actress, was raised in a huge family in Hamilton, Ontario. She was raised by both parents Roy and Patty along with four brothers who were older than them: Brett, Todd and Bram twins, Rob, and Brett. Top soloists at important competitions like International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, were all awarded to Ashley.
